Sažetak
Paper tries to answer on question: What is difference, and what is identical in karst hydrology and hydrogeology? Usual definitions of hydrogeology and hydrology are: hydrogeology is branch of geology, which deals with groundwater and especially its occurrence, while hydrology is science that deals with the processes governing the land areas of the Earth, and treats various phases of the hydrological cycle. From these definitions it is hardly possible to strictly distinguish between the two scientific disciplines. In engineering practice the division is grounded in argument that hydrology deals with surface water and hydrogeology with groundwater. However, strictly enforcing such division could have harmful consequences on development of both sciences. Synthesis of hydrogeological and hydrological approach could expedite progress in surface water-groundwater system understanding. This is especially true for the problem of water occurrence and circulation in karst. Karst is specific media where exists strong interaction between circulation of groundwater and surface water. Due to this reason progress in karst theoretical and practical investigations should be based on closed co-operation between hydrology and hydrogeology as well as many others scientific disciplines. A few examples are given in the paper.
