Sažetak
Use of waste and recycled materials in civil engineering is an ever increasing research subject. Numerous research studies addressing the use of a wide range of waste materials have been conducted in the past decades. The paper describes potential application of fly ash in rigid (concrete) pavements. It also discusses fundamental properties of this “ modern pozzolan” that are being utilized in the concrete mix design or design of stabilizing mixes in construction of pavement base and subbase layers. Special attention is given to the description of the current research experience in Croatia regarding the evaluation of properties of cement and fly ash stabilized sands. The properties are examined with respect to how those meet existing standards and recommendations for construction of pavement base and subbase layers in Croatia.
