Sažetak
Spinal cord trauma is an important medical and social problem. There is no effective drug therapy of spinal cord traumatised person. The influence of vitamin C hyperbaric oxygenation on somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP) in rabbits with the injured spinal cord examined in this experiment. SEP can provide a unique insight into the functioning of the nervous system since they result from the direct stimulation of sensory nerves. Hypoxia and ischemia, due to spinal cord injury, lead to the cord damage and deterioration of neural fuctions. We tested if hyperbaric oxygenation and vitamin C could recover SEP in spinal cord contusioned animals, because hyperbaric oxygenation is a potent reducer of tissue hipoxsia, and vitamin C is a free radical scavenger.
