Sažetak
The performance of a photovoltaic (PV) module under actual operating conditions depends on the module technology and its characteristics and on environmental effects at the site of operation. After establishing the solar radiation measurement system at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Split, first outdoor testing of photovoltaic modules started in 2005. The goal is to establish the reliable equipment and procedures for testing PV modules in operating conditions in order to improve their performance prediction and make more efficient system designs. Here we present the first results of outdoor testing performed on a-Si:H module during August and September 2005. Testing included simultaneous measurements of global and diffuse solar radiation, module back surface temperature and I-V characteristics. The dependence of short-circuit current and open-circuit voltage on irradiance and temperature is investigated and modelled using simple linear functions although the exact effect of each environmental condition on overall module performance is difficult to separate with only outdoor measurements. For more complete testing measurements should also be performed in a controlled laboratory conditions.
