Sažetak
In 1987, 1988 and 1990 a dynamics and growth potential of phytoplankton populations were investigated both in the channels of Stara Drava and Lakes Sakadaš and Kopačko (in Nature Reserve Kopački rit). Among the abiotic factors that have most influenced the development of phytoplankton in the channels of Stara Drava, was the sediment formed by the sedimentation of solid organic wastes in the period 1969-1984 as well as the changing water level. It was the changing Danube water level that has most influenced the development of phytoplankton in Lakes Sakadaš and Kopačko. In the investigated period a total of 317 phytoplankton taxa were identified among which 289 in surface water and 272 in contact layer of sediment-water. They belonged to the following systematic groups: Cyanophyta/Cyanobacteria, Euglenophyta, Pyrrophyta, Chrysophyta, Chlorophyta and Mycophyta. The representatives of Cyanophyta/Cyanobacteria were most abundant in summer. The representatives of Euglenophyta had an intensive growth in summer and autumn. The representatives of Chlorophyta were predominant in warmer months while the representatives of Bacillariophyceae were dominant in colder months. In the investigated localities the measured values of both primary plankton production and assimilation pigment of chlorophyll-a were the highest in the surface water layer but they were decreasing towards the bottom. Plankton floral similarity between adjacent localities was increasing from the pollution source toward the Reserve. The waters of the investigated localities mostly belonged to the beta and beta-alpha mesosaprobic zone but in the localities of Stara Drava occasionally to the alpha-mesosaprobic zone. The AGP results showed that the water in the channels of Stara Drava was short of nitrogen and phosphorus in early spring while in Lake Sakadaš it was during vegetation inactivity. The measurement of algal growth potential in order to study the trophy and bioproduction prognosis in vitro was first carried out in Croatia in this region and they were very useful for the research of ecosystem metabolism. The obtained results can be used for protecting the investigated waters in processes for their ecological healing because these waters have been a part of a battle field in the Croatian liberation war and have suffered great damage.
