Sažetak
Mechanical hyperventilation is widely used in patients with severe head injuries during last 20 years. Ischemic brain damage has been found on neuropathological examination in 88% of head injured patients. Hyperventilatin to PaCO2 of 20 mm Hg showed to have a detrimental effect on the outcome in one randomized trial. Recently so called optimized hyperventilation was proposed for neurotraumatized patients. The purpose of our study was to find if intermittent measurements of SvjO2 in severe head injured patients will influence our setting of ventilator.
