Sažetak
Seven Quercus species, four deciduous (Q. cerris, Q. petraea, Q. pubescens and Q. robur) and three evergreen (Q. coccifera, Q. ilex and Q. suber), were assessed for DNA content. Their genome sizes ranged from 1.88 to 2.00 pg/2C, namely an interspecific DNA content variation of 6%. In addition, several populations of Q. petraea and Q. robur with different geographical origin, French and Croatian, were estimated. There were no DNA content variation between four populations of Q. robur, while two populations of Q. petraea differed in DNA amount, the French population having higher 2C DNA value than the Croatian. The genome size of this French populations showed important dispersion amongst ten measured individuals. This was in accordance with subsequent cytogenetical data that revealed extra chromosomes in some individuals from this population. GC percentage varied little between the species: 39.9% of GC is established as typical for oaks.
