Sažetak
The idea of foundation an eye bank in Croatia started in 1990 with intention to raise quantity and quality of corneal transplantation on a higher level. Today, LCEB has all the necessary equipment and educated personnel. It˘s main role is collection, storage and evaluation of donor corneas, active education of ophthalmologist in Croatia and scientific-research work. The data base is formed and the back up, which will in future serve for permanent contact with transplantation centres in Europe and the USA still has to be formed. On of the next tasks is formation of the back up of local centres in Croatia for collection of material and foundation of a few professional centres (in Rijeka, Split and Osijek), in which corneal transplantation will routinely be performed.
