Sažetak
Demand is growing for wireless terminals that provide multimedia services, such as high-quality audio and images. However, wireless channels are characterized by long bursts of data errors and standard image coding schemes, such as JPEG, are not suitable for direct implementation. This paper presents an efficient error control scheme for transmission of images over wireless channels. Our approach integrates transform coding and BCH coding over complex field in a joint source/channel coder, and can be viewed as a modification of a standard JPEG coding scheme. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method preserves good image quality even with low S/N ratio and relatively high rate of impulse errors.
