Sažetak
An efficient transportation network is of utmost importance for economic and social development of a country. As in most European countries, the road network in Croatia is by far the most important element of land transport. The paper focuses on an extensive field investigation aimed at establishing the relationship between structural design and durability performance of highway concrete overpasses in Croatia. The structures on the older highway sections show serious signs of deterioration already after 20 to 30 years of service. Many are in need for major rehabilitation work or even replacement. Many durability related problems are associated with malfunctioning of the bridge equipment, which are generally a consequence of neglecting regular maintenance, but also errors in the design and execution.
