Sažetak
Wheat belongs to the most important agricultural crops in moderate climate so the factors that influence on wheat photosynthesis are subject of numerous investigations. In this work the dynamic of magnesium and nitrogen uptake was investigated during the wheat vegetation period, because magnesium and nitrogen are the constituents of chlorophyll and they have important role in photosynthesis. The wheat genotypes were grown on two localities in Croatia with aim of determination their morphological and physiological characteristics. Two of them (Perla and Lenta) that showed the greatest difference in photosynthetic productivity (total leaf area m2/ha, total dry matter yield kg/ ha and synthetized organic matter content kg/ha) were selected. Also, the concentration of magnesium and nitrogen (%/plant dry matter), as well as the chloroplast pigments content (chlorophyll a and b, carotenoids ; mg/g fresh weight) were analysed. The statistical analyses of established data showed very significant regression connection among organic matter content (kg/ha) and other parameters (F = 152.5404**) as well as the large number of significant correlation's. The magnesium concentration was correlated with all other parameters except, unexpectedly, with the concentration of chlorophyll b, and the greatest correlation coefficient was in the connection with nitrogen (r = 0.635**). The greatest correlation coefficient was altogether in the connection between nitrogen concentration and organic matter content (r = -0.849**). As a result it could be concluded that both magnesium and nitrogen availability to plants strongly influenced the wheat productivity through their function in chloroplast pigments and photosynthesis itself.
