Sažetak
The aim of this paper is to present the innovations in knitwear design from manufacturers of knitting machines and famous designers point of view. It will be analyzed how these two views on design of knitwear differ and does designers use the newest technological innovations as a designing tool. In the paper will be presented the newest collections of knitwear, with basic technological details, from Shima Seiki, Stoll and Santoni, as leading manufacturers of flatbed and circular knitting machines. Recently knitting machine manufacturers did usually offer collections which could demonstrate all abilities of machines, but they have been poorly designed. Today leading machine manufacturers offer excellent designed collections in task to promote machines, but most of designers still do not use most of knitting abilities. Taking into consideration minimalist and retro stiles, it is still difficult not to think that knitwear could be more contemporary designed.
