Sažetak
Regional and local geochemical mapping is being carried out within the framework of the national project "The basic geochemical map of Croatia". The sample media are represented by soils, alluvial sediments (stream sediments, overbank and floodplain sediments) and rocks. During the preceding investigations emphasis has been laid on the analysis of content and distribution of chemical elements in the topsoil (0-25 cm). The sampling of the entire area of the Republic of Croatia has been carried out in a regular grid of 5x5 km (1 sample per 25km^2) and the total of 2778 samples were collected throughout. The samples were subjected to the analytical tests comprising the package of 36 chemical elements ((Mo, Cu, Pb, Zn, Ag, Ni, Co, Mn, Fe, As, U, Au, Th, Sr, Cd, Sb, Bi, V, Ca, P, La, Cr, Mg, Ba, Ti, Al, Na, K, W, Zr, Sn, Y, Nb, Be, Sc, i Hg). In addition, pH value was also analyzed in all samples, and abundances of the major elements were determined for the most important types of soils (in accordance to the "Pedological map of Republic of Croatia, scale 1:300, 000"). Geochemical atlas is a graphical representation of the chemical elements with sufficient accuracy and precision of an analytical method only. A computer software ArcInfo- Geostatistics Analyst and Spatial analyst ver. 8.3 (corporation ESRI - USA) was utilized to produce the geochemical single-element maps. Data used for the map generation were interpolated applying the gridding technique, and values in a regular grid were evaluated by the method of krigging. The concentration contours running through interpolated grids were defined as the values of the 10^th, 25^th, 50^th, 90^th, 95^th 98^th and 99^th percentile of the normal distribution of each element.
