Sažetak
Magnesium deficiency in plant nutrition occurs as a consequence of ion antagonism among Mg2+ and H+, Al3+ and Ca2+. Soils with pH about 5 rarely show inadequate availability of magnesium to plants such as pseudogley soils from Croatia investigated in this work, where 758 soil samples were analyzed by the EUF method. The average pH determined in water was 6.1 and in 1 N KCl was 5.05. The humus content was 1.58 % and selective clay content (SMC) was 17.48 %. The amounts of extracted potassium and calcium were relatively low (EUF-K-I = 8.95 mg/100 g soil, EUF-K-II = 3.48 mg/100 g soil, EUF-Ca-I = 16.8 mg/100 g soil, EUF-Ca-II = 9.86 mg/100 g soil), what influenced the magnesium content (EUF-Mg-I = 2.89 mg/100 g soil, EUF-Mg-II = 1.22 mg/100 g soil, EUF-Mg-Kat = 1.32 mg/100 g soil). Also, the total Norg, nitrate, sodium, iron, manganese content and both EUF fractions of phosphorus and sodium were estimated. The significance of connections among EUF parameters was tested by the correlation analyses. The highest correlation coefficient was in the connection of EUF-Mg-I with EUF-Mg-II (r = 0.746**) followed by the correlation with EUF-Ca-I (r = 0.59**). The EUF-Mg-II fraction correlated also very significantly with pH in KCl (r = 0.475**). The EUF-Mg-Kat correlated with less parameters then first and second EUF-Mg fractions and the highest was with SMC (r = 0.227**). This clay content was also correlated with other fractions of magnesium, as well as the nitrate content and both fractions of calcium. The advantage of the EUF method in respect to other soil analyses method is the possibility to get a large number of soil information in one extraction process. The consideration of these information enables precision of plant nutrient availability in the soil, what includes magnesium as the macronutrient of the plants.
