Sažetak
Peptidoglycan monomer (PGM) is the disaccharide-pentapeptide originating from Brevibacterium divaricatum. It was obtained by lysozyme digestion of uncrosslinked peptidoglycan chains isolated from the culture fluid of penicillin treated bacteria. PGM preparation contains up to 10% of anhydromuramyl analogue. Following i.v. administration PGM is rapidly excreted, partly as a pentapeptide, resulting from the action of N-acetylmuramyl-L-alanine amidase present in blood. It exhibits immunostimulating and antitumor activity in various experimental models in vivo and in vitro.
