Sažetak
Most commonly used materials for reinforcing concrete are steel materials such as reinforcing steel and reinforcing cables. Recently, composite materials made of fibers embedded in a polymeric resin, also known as Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP), have become an alternative to steel reinforcement for concrete structures. There are three types of FRP, depending on type of fibres, Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP), Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) and Aramid Fiber Reinforced Polymer (AFRP). In this paper, carbon and glass FRP mechanical properties will be described and compared with mechanical properties of reinforcing steel and cables. Tensile tests, according to standard which is appropriate for exact material, are performed and σ -ε diagrams are presented. Also E-moduluses are compared. Tensile test of reinforcing steel and cables are performed according to European standards. Tensile testing of FRP bars for concrete reinforcement is not covered by standard, because it is rather new material. Tensile test is performed according to empirical parameters of previous researches. Considerable differences in deformations and stresses are noticable. Also, there are differences in shape of σ -ε diagram. Reinforcing steel has elasto-plastic, while FRP has linear-elastic behaviour. Characteristics of each material for concrete reinforcing are shown in paper.
