Sažetak
The Companion takes thorough look at tourism studies as a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary field. The primary objective of this book appears to present "the major research and theoretical subjects’ areas of tourism studies" (p.xvii). There is undoubtedly a need to comprehend the economic and socio-psychological processes underpinning common characteristics of tourist expectations and experiences. The challenges for researchers in tourism studies are to understand how re-regulation (Ateljević and Doorne, chapter 23) relates to the main economic relation - production, service, and consumption. Increasing public awareness of the potentially negative impacts of tourism development has been associated with tourism growth. Presented approaches considered from a "new economy" perspective, and learned primarily from the United States’ experiences, could be usefully engaged in comparative studies in tourism.
