Sažetak
Like so many original traditional boats, both the trupa and the batana wonderfully represent the idea of good design. Both are precious naval design jewels, polished throught centuries. From the very concept all the way down to the structural elements, particularly their simple sharp form, their builders seem to have followed the idea expressed in the modern Mies Van der Rohe's design maxim "Less is more". It is important to record and remember such vanishing traditional vessels, the knowledge and the skills of their builders, sailors and fishermen even in order to stress the cultural richeness of the past. This is particularly important today, when the world is heading towards a cultural uniformity. The mere fact that the ancient shipwright managed to design and build vessls that successfully matched the severe constraints imposed by the sea with, from our point of view-primitive knowledge, materials, tools and technologies-makes his experience extremely interesting to be investigated from the designer's aspect. It is therefore esential for the modern designer to learn such precious experience to be able to act better in the world of today.
