Sažetak
On the basis of many interventions done in the fieldwork, conducted in the past three years, and examples given by the displaced persons and refugees settled on the island of Hvar, this paper analyses the possible reasons of many wittnessed misunderstandings that often have a detrimental impact on the process and success of both, humanitarian relief programmes and research studies conducted among those in exile. It is disscussed that the misunderstandings are not only a consequence of overlooking some of the problems of exile because of the ascription of "insivisibility" to the individual and his cultural background, but are also a reflection of the rigidity in the approach towards the displaced and refugees. Although one could suppose that this is often a outcome that comes from a lack of preparation and knowledge, it should firstly be looked upon as a lack in the sensitivity and flexibility of those who provide help, as well as of professionals whose main aim is to "observe", "document", and "serve" the consequences of suffering, rather than wittness the troubles of each individual and act upon them.
