Sažetak
Microvascular histology was compared in Dahl S rats, SS.BN 13 consomic rats (chromosome 13 of the normotensive Brown Norway rat in the Dahl S genetic background) and renin congenic (RGRR) rats (Dahl salt resistant renin gene in Dahl S genetic background). Rats were fed low salt (LS) diet (0.4% NaCl) or high salt (HS) diet (4% NaCl) for 4 weeks. Blood pressures (mmHg)-Dahl LS: 122+6 (n=12) ; Dahl HS: 157+5 (n=8) ; SS.BN13 LS: 124+7 (n=6) ; SS.BN13HS: 129+8 (n=11) ; RGRR LS: 134+6 (n=8) ; RGRR HS: 145+3 (n=9). Histological changes--LS controls: Dahl S rats: some tissue edema, but a fairly normal vascular wall morphology. SS.BN13 rats: normal vessel walls. RGRR rats: some interstitial WBC infiltration, but mostly normal microvessel structure. HS rats: Widespread degenerative structural changes in Dahl S and RGRR rats. Areas of necrosis with wall degeneration, stasis of blood in microvessels 20 - 60  m and WBC infiltration into vessel walls in Dahl S and RGRR. Vascular morphology was fairly normal in SSBN.13 with no inflammation or degenerative changes. These results suggest that hypertension, in conjunction with HS diet, leads to degenerative changes in the microcirculation of Dahl S rats and RGRR rats, while SS.BN13 rats on HS diet appear to be protected against the major degenerative changes occurring in Dahl S and RGRR rats.
