Sažetak
Lymphatic vessel distribution and architecture were compared in the cremaster muscle of Dahl S rats (SS/JrHsdMcwi) and SS-13BN consomic rats (chromosome 13 of the normotensive Brown Norway rat on the Dahl S genetic background). Rats were fed a low salt (LS) (0.4% NaCl) or high salt (HS) diet (4% NaCl) for 4 weeks. Structural changes were evaluated via histology and confocal microscropy of G. simplifolia labeled whole mounts. Lymphatic architecture differed significantly between Dahl S and SS-13BN, regardless of diet. Dahl S-LS had few lymphatic vessels. When present, these were located only parallel to the main arterial-venous supply. Lymphatic vessels in Dahl S-HS were dilated, with few valves, suggesting lymphostasis. SS-13BN LS had extensive thin, valved lymphatics along most arterioles, as well as short “ bulbs” extending toward the capillaries. Overall lymphatic distribution was greatly increased in SS-13BN HS, with a transitional meshwork between feed vessels and capillaries, along with extended thin, valved lymphatics running parallel to capillaries. The presence of marked structural differences between the LS groups suggests that genes on chromosome 13 (most likely the renin gene) may directly or indirectly result in a lymphatic “ phenotype” which is more (SS-13BN) or less (Dahl S) adapted for removal of increases in interstitial fluid in response to HS diet.
