Sažetak
The aim of the research was to determine the influence of the breed on the birth weight and increment of kids fed by milk substitute from delivery to weaning. The research included the total of 722 female and male kids, out of which were 426 kids of the French Saanen breed, 246 French Alpine and 50 kids of the Croatian white breed. Immediately after the delivery and sex determination, the birth weight of kids was determined by individual weighing. After kidding, kids were separated from mothers, kept in special boxes (18 kids in a box) and after consuming colostrum, they were fed in groups by milk substitute for kids. The growth of kids was followed by individual weighing every 10-12 days. The average age of kids in the first weighing was 19 days and after the last weighing 110 days. There was a total of 8 weighings. Results were statistically processed using the SAS (1996) statistics package. The average birth weight of the French Saanen kids was 3.24 kg, French Alpine 3.41 kg and the Croatian white kids 2.96 kg. The mentioned differences in the birth weight between the breeds were significant (P<0, 05 ; P<0, 01). There wasn&#8217; t a significant influence of the breed on the body mass in weaning and the average daily increment from the delivery to the weaning (P>0.05). The average daily increment of kids till 110 days was 140.51 g in Saanen kids, 135.23 g in the Alpine and 138.23 g in kids of the Croatian white breeds. In all three breeds the highest daily increment of kids was determined in the first weeks of life (till the 19th day) and then it was gradually falling till weaning. At the beginning, the average daily increment of French Saanen kids was 233.85 g, the Alpine kids 220.76 g and the kids of the Croatian white breed 173.53 g. The mentioned differences in the increment between the breeds were significant (P<0.01). The average body weight of the French Saanen kids in weaning was 18.34 kg, the Alpine kids 17.81 kg and the Croatian white kids 18.94 kg.
