Sažetak
Introduction: A retrospective study was undertaken to evaluate the accuracy of rapid intraoperative cytology in the diagnosis of primary ovarian tumors. Matherial and methods: In a period of two years (1994-1995), intraoperative cytologic analyses in 138 patients with clinical and sonographically suspected ovarian tumors werw made. The slides were stained by Color-rapid, new, rapid modification of the Pappenheim method, process, taking only 15 seconds. Results: Of 138 surgical specimens, 107 were benign and 31 malignant. Cytologic results were compared with definitive histopathologic diagnoses. The overall diagnostic accuracy of cytologic analysis was 94, 9%, sensitivity 87, 5%, specificity 97, 1%, positive predictive value 90, 3% and negative predictive value 96, 2%. Discussion: Distinction between benign and malignant tumors was achieved. Conclusion: Intraoperative cytologic analysis made by Color-rapid method could be very useful for distinquishing non-neoplastic, benign, semimalignant and malignant ovarian tumors.
