Sažetak
Removal of the radionuclides and heavy metals from waste water collected in the Waste Monitor Tank (WMT) from Krško Nuclear Power Plant with the coagulant produced from bauxite waste (red mud and waste base) was presented. Research was conducted on composite annual samples collected during each month. Activities of radionuclide in WMT were measured before and after purification using high purity germanium detector. Also, elemental concentrations in WMT before and after purification were measured by source excited energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF). The influence of pH value, mixing time and amount of coagulant on the sorption of heavy metals and radionuclides was determined. Various leaching tests were conducted on the remaining waste mud, in order to determine a safe way to its permanent disposal. It has been showed that activated red mud is excellent purification agent for the removal of radionuclides present in low level liquid radioactive waste. For the radionuclides 58Co and 60Co removal efficiency was 100%, while 134Cs and 137Cs over 60%. Maximum removal efficiency of the activated red mud for the elements Co, Zn, Cu, Fe and Pb was 100 %, 98 %, 88 %, 96% and 93 % respectively.
