Sažetak
Groundwater is one of the most important ecological factors in the lowland forests of Croatia. Forest ecosystems have, in the last few decades, been exposed to a very strong antropogenic influence, hydromeliorative proceedings, which cause changes in the water regime and leads to forest weakening. Permanent monitoring of the groundwater regime is established in the field to collect information about changes in it. This information is accumulated and then analysed at the Forest Research Institute Jastrebarsko with the aid of the CROFHIS programme (Croatian Forests Hydropedological Information System). This data presents the basis for further research into relationship between groundwater, soil, phytocenosis and forest conditions. The given results are then applied in silviculture and forest management as well as in the influence of hidromeliorative works on forest ecosystems. This paper contains the results of a four year monitoring (1994-1997) on fifteen piezometric stations, four wells and four canals in the lowland forests of the Pokupsko Basin in the Northwest region of Croatia. The regime of groundwater is analysed for specific types of soil of this region. These results are then compared to measurements of groundwater taken from 1980-1993.
