Sažetak
New accomplishments in Croatian building are mainly connected with intensive road construction. Long-term development programme of Croatian road network was outlined in Road Network Development Strategy adopted by Croatian Government in 1996 and Croatian Parliament in 1999. The goals and schedule were set taking into account direct and indirect benefits in priority economic sectors, under-developed and under-populated areas, environmental protection, integration of the most distant Croatian regions, connection with European transport system and revitalisation of Croatian ports. After the Strategy was approved the construction gained speed and the total length of highways and semi-highways currently operated in Croatia amounts to 1019 km, with further works to complete 1501 km network advancing as scheduled. In the scope of this work many highway structures were constructed. Two major bridges are discussed: Skradin bridge across Krka river is reinforced concrete arch bridge of 204 m span with composite superstructure and Peljesac bridge is a major new investment currently underway in Croatia with the overall length of 2380 m. Two longest double-tube tunnel structures are also presented: 5.67-km long Sveti Rok tunnel and 5.78-km long Mala Kapela tunnel. At the first stage of exploitation only one tunnel tube is opened to traffic and the other serves as a service tunnel and escape route. Completion and opening to traffic of the second tube is anticipated when the traffic intensity requires it.
