Sažetak
The morphometric traits were determined on the sample of 459 marketable size common carps from the four Croatian fish farms. There traits were analyzed by the classical methods in order to differentiate the populations and to determine the influence of population, scaliness, age and sex on the dressing percentage. The populations were additionaly compared by principal components analyses of truss network.
The obtained results show the existance of different phenotypes of common carps at Croatian farms. That was confirmed by principal components analyses of truss network, as well. By the use of only two first factors of PC analyis the all four populations are completely diferentiated. However, in spite of all these, primarily morphometric differences, the significant dyferences of dressing percentage among the populations were not registered (p>0,05). High positive correlation coefficients (p<0,01) between two types of dressing percentage (with and without scales) indicate that the changes of one of them will cause the changes in the same direction of the other one.
The significant diference between the dressing percentages of scaled and mirror carps was not detected (p>0,05), what leads to the conclusion that the scaliness does not influence dressing percentage significantly. The age, also, did not show significant influence on dressing percentage. As the carps were sampled in winter the dyfferences in dressing percentage caused by the different maturation of males and females were excluded. These results indicate that sex did not significantly influenced the dressing percentage.
It is obvious that the shape of fish body as well as the shape of its trunk can have the economic importance. In order to incluide such traits in selection programmes it is necessary to know their phenotypic and genotypic variations. If these traits show significant differences between sexes the culture of monosex lines for the market is possible. This research showed that it is possible to assess that such production of marketable common carps is not scientifikaly approved.
