Sažetak
The investigation of interpretability of panchromatic satellite image IRS 1C integrated with multispectral Landsat TM image with the purpose of topographic map sheet in 1:25000 scale updating is described. Geocoding of source map was based on trigonometric points of the map sheet. Satellite images were geocoded using control points selected from the map. The contents of map were vectorized and topographic database was designed. The main division of topographic contents of vector part of database is based on the planned Official Topographic-Cartographic Information System of the Republic of Croatia. Digital image processing has improved their interpretability. Then, vectorization of new contents was made. Due to the resolution limit, the line objects enhancement was not entirely satisfactory. Also, it isn't possible to obtain satisfactory cartographic representation of urban area in the requested scale. The detection of changes in forest and water areas was defined by using supervised classification of spatial and spectral merged images. Verification of the results was made using corresponding aerial photographs. Although methodology described above could not provide updating of topographic maps at the scale 1:25000, the database was updated with a huge amount of data, which can be completed by new data from aerial photographs or satellite images with higher resolution. Erdas Imagine 8.3 software was used.
