Farmwomen; socioprofessional and infrastructural constrains
Sažetak
Women face a number of constrains while choosing their professional position -entering the job market or staying to work on the farm. Therefore a research study about farmwomen in the Mediterranean area of Croatia was made. On a sample of 350 family farms through interviews and questionnaires we tried to identify main constraints as they depend on family, educational background, farmwomen’ s preferences and life choices. The results showed on first level: socioprofessional constraints like limited educational level, age, residential position were affecting the possibility for a possible off farm employment and therefore headed farmwomen to an exclusive farm job. The second level showed societal influences of family and local society expectations on farmwomen (like being a good wife and mother, also expectations on women’ s work on the farm, around and in the house, that had more importance for a farmwomen than having an off farm job or higher education). On the third level farmwomen face infrastructural constrains that limited their off farm employment (although the first two levels were satisfying). Infrastructural constrains like lack of childcare and elderly care facilities, housekeepers, no drivers license or car, bad system of public transportation influenced in a great sense on limited farmwomen’ s professional possibilities.
