Sažetak
The Law on Nature Conservation from 2003, introduced management plans for protected areas in Croatia. According to the new Law on the Nature protection (2005) management of the most categories of protected areas in Croatia (strict reserve, national park, nature park, regional park, special reserve and protected landscape) should be based on the management plan. Management plans are valid for a period of 10 years with reviews after five years, if necessary. The law prescribes the content of these plans. According to the law, management plans have to include a zonation model based on natural values and management needs as well as conservation policies for the respective zones. The methodology followed in these Management Planning Guidelines is based on a variety of international standards and experiences on management planning, including among others Italian, American, British experiences as well as standards set by IUCN, EUROPARC or EUROSITE. The methodology and proposed format was discussed and agreed at several workshops within the KEC project with representatives of all Croatian protected areas and tested on the Risnjak National Park Management Plan.
