Sažetak
Rats with spontaneous recurrent seizures (SRS) were obtained bz injection of kainic acid (KA), !=mg/kg SC) to drug naive that regularlydevelop wet dog shakes followed by complex partial seiyures and status epilepticus. Three to five weeks later, the rats with menifest SRS were selected. The SRS were challenged with KA (10 mg/kg). The sizures induced in SRS rats by KA were similar to SRS regarding their clinical stage and duration. The frequency of seizure was, however, increased compared with the frequency of SRS in controls. vehicle treated SRS rats. The KA induced seizures in SRS rats differ behaviorally from Ka -induced seizures in naive rats, namelz, neither wet-dog shakes nor the status epilepticus could be induced. Repeated injectionof anequal dose of Ka, applied in SRS rats 1 day after the previous KA challenge did not induce seizures. The loss of seizure suspectibility to Ka was onlz temporary, as shown after 7days drug free periosd, when the repeated injection of KA regain its seizure triggering capacity. The results indicate that reactivity to the sizre-inducing agent kainic acid changes in rats with spontaneous recurrent seizures.
