Sažetak
Tvrdja is the old city core of Osijek, capital of Eastern Croatia, and the site of Osijek’ s university campus. Its 106 buildings – originally residential houses and army barracks - form a unique example of fortification architecture in Croatia. This article will try to show details of financing the maintenance and reconstruction of Tvrdja, parties responsible for its management as well as documents and laws dealing with Croatian architectural heritage protection in general and Tvrdja in particular. The article will also follow the evolution of different ideas for the revival of Tvrdja that contributed to a plan for its future as a university centre and campus.
