Sažetak
Aquatic environment and its adjacent zones are among the most vulnerable parts of the environment due to competing demands and conflicting uses arising from the complex interaction of the social, economic, physical, chemical and biological processes taking place in those zones. In such conditions, information technology can be of great help to decision makers in the formulation of environmental policies and strategic spatial planning documents. By integrating modern hydroinformatics tools and methods into the system of planning in the Rijeka bay area (within the framework of the project entitled "Planning and management of Rijeka Bay Aquatic Environment") the focus of planers will be shifted from traditional planning methods towards simulations and flexible presentation technologies that will help in defining and analysing problems before selecting among alternatives.
