Sažetak
The problem of o2 toicity is universal and demands streneous measures. cell convene substantial resources toprotect themselves from the potentially damaging effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Several vitamins and micronutrients, whish are sctive at quenching these free radical species or required for their enzymic detoxification, constitute first line of defense against ROS.people exposed to the extreme efforts and environmental contaminants must have very efficient antioxidative machinery to avoid or diminish oxidative assault. Many naturally occuring compounds have antioxidant activity. In this work the antioxidant activity of some natural occuring polyphenols, and several new, synthesized, sulfur deivatives of Vitamin C were evaluated. The DPPH radical scavnging method was used to determine antioxidant activity of equimolar concentrations of the comounds. The percent inhibition of DPPH radical by test compounds was calculated according to the formula of Yen and Duh(1994). The correlation between molecular structure and antioxidant activity is discussed.
