Sažetak
Diagnosing malfunctions in power plants requires extensive training and practical experience of control room's personnel. Regardless of the automation level of the plant, operators should be able to monitor, detect, isolate, and reverse faulty situation. This paper describes a virtual reality based application developed to train staff on how to deal with failures and emergency situations. The implementation of the virtual reality interface is based on the Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML), in combination with the Java programming language. VRML PROTO statements and implementation of new nodes are used to represent virtual instruments and through corresponding Java scripts they are connected to corresponding modules in a MATLAB/SIMULINK based simulator. VRML/Java combination is also used to integrate the virtual environment within the standard graphical user interface. The boiler's circuit of the plant is used as a case study.
