Sažetak
In the paper Croatia's geopolitical and political status, the consequences of the independence war 1991-1995 and the common problems of the former socialist country in transition are presented. The deficiencies of the environment which seldom gives impetus to development of Croatian libraries and other information utilities are explained as well as the attempts of the library profession to initiate mechanisms for improvement in stimulating the Government to formulate a national information policy. The necessity of coordination on all levels which would enable successful restructuring of Croatian library and information utilities is emphasized.
