Sažetak
This paper presents general information about Pupićina Cave and our excavation methods, as well as a detailed description of the site’ s stratigraphy and excavated contexts from the beginning of the Neolithic to present. This stratigraphic information combined with chronometric determinations reveals a complex depositional history of relatively brief periods of rapid deposition and sediment reworking followed by long periods of site abandonment. We focus on the characterization and spatial distribution of different depositional units and their stratigraphic correlation. Break-down of the site into phases is accomplished by using relative and absolute dating techniques – primarily, diagnostic pottery and radiocarbon dates. We also present simple analyses of flotation heavy residues. This flotation data is used to compare in a very general way the spatial contrasts in the content of different sedimentary facies as well as temporal trends in the frequency with which remains were deposited at Pupićina Cave.
