Sažetak
Chlamydia trachomatis is the most prevalent sexually transmitted pathogen in many obstetric population. Although transmission of C. trachomatis to infants during vaginal birth can result in conjuctivitis and pneumonia, there is some uncertainty about other adverse effect of chlamydial infection during pregnancy. A study was undertaken to examine possible transplancetal passage of C. trachomatis from pregnant women who were seropositive for chlamydia. Fifty-two asymptomatic chlamydia seropositive pregnant women were scheduled for Cesarean section and tested for the presence of high serum IgG titres (>1:64). Sixteen of them (30, 8%) had high serum IgG titres (>1:16). Elevated IgG and IgM antibody levels were seen in one (1, 9%) and five (9, 6%) of the examined amniotic fluid samples, respectively. C. trachomatis specific IgM antibodies were detected statistically more often in amniotic fluid samples of IgM seropositive than in IgM seronegative pregnant women (<0, 01). C. trachomatis antigen was found in amniotic cells in two (3, 8%) cases. We concluded that C. trachomatis antigen and chlamydial specific antibodies can be identified in the amniotic fluids of pregnant women with high levels of chlamydial antibodies.
