Sažetak
The paper is dealing with the problem of municipal solid waste and non-hazardous industrial waste management. Different models of waste treatment and disposal are discussed from the theoretical and practical point of view. The paper also talks about the integrated waste management system chosen for specific circumstances in Primorsko and Gorski Kotar County, as well as the way of its implementation. The aim and purpose of the paper is to check the hypothesis that the modern integrated waste management in the County could be profitable and at the same time have good effect on the environment. It is concluded that the future waste management system, compared to the present situation, will surely have a positive influence on the environment. The studies that were made as a preparation for founding of the waste management concern have proved that the system could also be profitable. Furthermore, it is concluded that this integrated waste management system in the County which is based on the regional waste treatment centre, landfill for municipal solid waste and non-hazardous waste with a number of recycling yards and transfer-stations spread all over the County, is in accordance with the newest Strategy on Waste Management of the Republic of Croatia, which was presented by the Croatian government in June 2003.
