Sažetak
This study was carried out during the breeding season of 2003 in rural area, NW Croatia. Data collected on reproductive success allow one to examine repeatabilities of classes of traits: egg length, egg breadth, egg volume, egg shape index, and egg symmetry. In this study we estimated within-year repeatability of these egg characteristics in a population of starlings. Repeatabilities were estimated using mean values of egg characteristics from first and second clutches laid within a breeding season by individual females. Female starlings are consistent in their investment in egg length (repeatability = 0.90, egg shape index (0.88), egg volume (0.75), and egg breadth (0.64). These data suggest that in the starling population in NW Croatia, variation between clutches, in both the dimensions and the shape of eggs, is dependent on the body condition and physiological limitations of the female ("female factor").
