Sažetak
Ambrosia elatior (short ragweed) pollen is the most important cause of rhinitis and asthmatics symptoms in late summer and autumn in Croatia. Pollen grains of Amrosia elatior containg large amounts of water-extractable solutes. Allergenic pollen extracts are complex mixtures of these components. The present study was undertaken in order to identify, purify, characterize and standardize in vitro and in vivo Ambrosia elatior pollen extract. Our results demonstrated that RE of Ambrosia elatior was comparable to the IRP in total allergenic activity by in vitro methods. Allergenic activity of RE expressed in IU was 66600 and each ampoule contained 56800 BU, determined by skin prick testing. RE of Ambrosia elatior could serve as the national standard for manufacturing of this allergenic extract in Croatia.
