Sažetak
This paper describes the traditional fishing boat from Komiža - gajeta falkuša - as an icon of the Mediterranean identity in the Croatian culture. The author presents us with the historical context of this boat, based on the written documents about the history of fishing on the island of Vis and oral tradition which the author has recorded for years. This paper reveals many unknown facts about the history of fishing on the Dalmatian open-sea islands from 16. to 19. century.
