Sažetak
In this paper the author interprets three mutually connected oral stories from the island of Vis. The narrative structure of the stories is analyzed through semiotic interpretation. The narrator's position is established, as well as its role in the narration. The author continues to analyze the humouristic character of facenda as a narrative type of oral literature. He identifies particular types of humour, different in each oral story. The author identifes and interprets symbolic meaning of two mutually opposing iconic figures: the cat - as an embodiment of the thanatos principle (the underground, dark side) and the rooster - as an embodiment of the solar principle (eros). This opposition is tied to the contrast between the centripetal force (man's attachment to place) and the centrifugal globalizational force which annuls the identity of place.
