Sažetak
Very good establishment possibilities for the WCR in Croatia, Germany, Italy and France were reported by Maceljski, Igrc Barčić (1994, 1995) Baufeld et al (1996, 1997), Furlan (1997) and Reynaud (1997). Edwards presented in 1997 a prediction made for FAO by SDRN and AGLW showing also very good establishment possibilities of this insect in many parts of Europe. In our new analysis we have choosen five temperature criteria needed for an optimal development of the WCR and compared them with pertinent climatic data for four representative localities in Croatia. Four criteria are related to soil temperature 10 cm deep: (1) it should never be lower than - 10°C, (2) the April mean should be above 12, 8°C, (3) the May and June mean should be above 17°C and (5) the October mean should be lower than 12, 8°C. One criteria is related to the air temperature: (4) the June-August means should be above 17°C. This analysis shows that in all choosen localities (Osijek, Gradište, Bjelovar and Zagreb) the first, fourth and fifth criteria are fulfilled. In Osijek and Zagreb the third criteria is also fulfilled, in Gradište and Bjelovar the soil temperatures are slightly lower than requested. The second criteria is not fulfilled in all localities as the mean April temperatures in the soil are lower than requested (11, 9°C, 11, 3°C, 10, 5°C resp. 11, 8°C). We consider that these lower soil temperatures in April will not endanger the development of eggs and only postpone the larval hatch. We propose that more bioclimatic data concerning soil and air humidity should be included in further analysis. Based on our new analysis we consider that the temperatures which prevalis in all maize growing regions of Croatia are favourable for a good development of the WCR.
