Sažetak
Mercerization is one of the most important process in finishing of cotton. Fine structure, morphology and conformation of cotton cellulose chains ( cellulose I to cellulose II ) are occurred in this process. These changes have influence on fibre strength and lustre as well as on adsorption properties. It is recently shown that mercerization process changes electrokinetic behaviour of cotton. The purpose of the present work is to study electrokinetic behaviour of unmercerized and mercerized cotton. Zeta potential of cotton fibers in dependence of pH electrolyte solution and Point of Zero Charge (PZC) during titration with cationic surfactant, cetylpiridinium chloride (CPC), in 10-3mol/dm3 KCl solution on EKA (A. Paar) were determined. Streaming current method, as the most appropriate for fibers was used for measuring zeta potential .
