Sažetak
For the first time ever, a hard disk drive has been integrated into a field news recorder. Avid and Ikegami Disk-Based Camcorders (DNG - Digital News Gathering) introduce totally tapeless news gathering from recording and non-linear editing to transmission. Nevertheless, disk recording requires significant compression, and every compression means picture quality degradation. So, some companies believe that the practical disk recorder is a few years away at best. Panasonic (DVCPRO - Digital Video Cassette) is firmly commited to a hybrid world in which the tape is used for its cost effictiveness and storage capability, and the disk is used for its speed, reliability, and non-linear access. Panasonic has produced an innovative solution that offers higher quality, improved efficiency and performance, and greater cost-effectiveness than component analog. Also, JVC is unvealing a new component digital videotape format, called DIGITAL S-VHS. The main benefit of thise advanced technologies is that they offer complete systems from recording to transmission, and that the picture quality is better, or at least as good as BetaCam SP and the whole system including video cassettes is cheaper. For broadcasters, it is also very important, that now they can choose between three or more systems, and are not obliged to take BetaCam as a monopoly.
