Sažetak
In 1998 91 monitors were placing traps on 138 sites. On each site one pheromon and one Multigard trap was placed. The placement of traps started June 25^th. Each 25 days both traps were used (alltogether 552 of each type of traps). 64 (46%) sites were on previously infested regions, 37 (27%) along the line of spread in 197, and 37 (27%) deep deep in the uninfested territory. Ten monitors are permanent ones, and on four sites rings with 12 additional baits after the first catch were established. The first catch was registered the following day of the trap exposure, i.e. June 26^th. This fact shows the need of an even earlier start of the monitoring action. According to data which are available now the last catch was Sept. 21^st. Until now we have registered a total of 3368 beetles but the number will be greater when all data will be available. 95% of beetles were caught on the pheromon trap. Only three females were caught. The maximal catch was between July 10^th and August 31^th. In 4 rings 18 beetles were caught. At the moment we consider that the increase of the population density in 1998 is approx. 1, 3. In 1998 the WCR spread west 37 km to the village Gornji Varoš situated 150 km of the Yugoslav border and 150 km from Slovenia. This spread occured along the river Sava where is the shortest way to west Europe. In the middle part of north Croatia the WCR spread only 8 km to the west. In the northen part of Croatia along the border with Hungary no further spread was registered. Alltogether an area of about 9.500 sqkm is infested in which area about 200.000 ha of corn is sown.
