Sažetak
In the study longevity, duration of the preovipositional and ovipositional period and fecundity of the WCR females of different origin in laboratory conditions after feeding artificial diet have been compared. The same parameters after feeding WCR beetles from Croatia with different host plants as food sources have been established too. Trials with host plants were set up in laboratory conditions and in open air conditions. The total number of laid eggs per female for USA population is 111 what does not differ from the total number of eggs per female laid by females from Croatia which was 91, 5 and 91, 3 eggs. In the trials a big variability between females was found. Females laid between 60 and 400 eggs. In 1999, the number of eggs laid after feeding corn was significantly higher (109, 5eggs/female) than number of eggs laid after being fed with other food sources (between 23, 3 and 36, 4 eggs/female). In 2000, the number of eggs laid after the beetles were fed with corn, sunflower and soybean didn’ t significantly differ (between 113 and 135, 6 eggs/female) while the number of eggs after beetles were fed with sugar beat was significantly lower (71, 2 eggs/female). The results obtained in entomological cages confirmed the results from the laboratory. Beetles obviously have availability to laid eggs after feeding with all served food sources. Somewhat less eggs beetles laid after being fed with sugar beat leaves.
