Sažetak
The inherited condition often described as lobodontia or "wolf teeth" includes multiple dental anomalies which create characteristic phenotype. Characteristic type of dental anomalies usually includes coneshaped premolars, multitubercular molar crowns, pyramidal molar roots with single root canals, showelshaped incisors, hypodontia and palatal invaginations of maxillary incisors. There are very few family reports on this condition have been reported to date. The prevalence of the condition is estimated to less than 1: 1, 000.000. We present five cases from three families with 17 affected members. Clinical and radiographic evaluation of the teeth performed in all cases showed multiple dental anomalies and abnormality of alveolar bone. Analysis of digitopalmar dermatoglyphics and crown-size profile pattern analysis were performed in all patients. A significant general reduction in crown size was observed in all teeth. Premolars were most severe affected, particularly in the mandible. Alveolar processus in the premolar region was hypoplastic in all probands. Characteristic dental anomalies were accompanied by hypoplastic alveolar ridge and distorted dermatoglyphics. Sex ratio of the affected individuals was approximately M1:F1 (observed M7:F10). Our findings suggested the prevalence of the condition to be less than 1:300 000 in the Croatian population, what is considerably higher than that reported in literature. Family history of all five cases showed slight variability of clinical picture and autosomal dominant (AD) mode of inheritance. It can be concluded that the condition most commonly described as lobodontia represent specific genetic entiry which follows the AD mode of inheritance and shows variability in its expression.
