Sažetak
The natural course of development of the structure and re-establishment of the stand was monitored during the period from 1956 to 2004 on a permanent experimental plot, established in 1956 in a culture of Norway spruce in the montane region of Croatia. The plot borders a natural forest of beech and fir (Abieti-Fagetum croaticum, Horv. 1938) on dolomite. At the time of establishment, and on the basis of an analysis of 16 Norway spruce trees, the stand was 113 years old, which indicated that the stand had been artificially raised in 1843. According to the data prior to planting the area had been a meadow (pasture). Today the age of the stand is 161 years. The plot is quadrilateral, 100x100m in size. In the middle of the plot is a strip, 10x100m in size on which all trees are numbered, measured and comprehensively phenotypically described. During 1957 thinning by extraction was performed of 39 trees, and in 1962 another 27 trees (felling intensity 19%). After which there were no further interventions on the plot. In 1994 the plot was re-established according to the same principles as during the first measurement, and the state of the young growth recorded on an area of 2 x 100 m. Measurement was also carried out in 2004 with detailed pedalogical analyses, and horizontal crown projections of all trees recorded and expressed in digital form. On the basis of which a vertical profile of the stand was obtained. The same was done retrospectively for the first measurement in 1956, and on the basis of the measurement data for each tree. The abundance of data and the permanent plot, which is particularly well preserved, provide the possibility of multidisciplinary monitoring of the natural course of the development of these stands.
